We’ve been so busy with everything going on that we nearly forgot to post this flyer for the upcoming Vancouver Comicon. I first came across the convention during their annual creator-oriented Comix & Stories, which I happened upon by chance when I was visiting my friend and hawking The Matter up north. I found out about the show from a retailer the day before the event, and called that night. There was a cancellation, so at the last minute I was granted a space and had one of the most fulfilling and interesting cons of my young career.
With all the incredible art, music, and literature coming out of Vancouver, I assumed it would literally be overflowing with brilliant artists. And being used to Portland, I assumed that I would just meet them nearly everywhere I went. Alas, Vancouver is ever so slightly larger than ol’ Stumptown, and home to many more diverse people than just artists. But it’s that same separated atmosphere which makes the Vancouver Comicon such a special event, because being so small and intimate, it brings together and indeed creates a community.
I look forward to seeing my partners in crime from Sketchrospective, with whom I “appropriated” an empty table at this past Emerald City Comicon. I’ll also look forward to seeing James Lloyd, who was my tablemate at my last Vancouver Comicon and a delight of a person. I’m sure that I’ll meet more interesting artists this time around, so check back for an update from the show.
